Leadership Development

What it is

Leadership programs for people responsible for organizations, communities, and institutions working through conditions that won’t settle. They come in two forms. Three times a year we run an open program, where leaders from different sectors work alongside each other. On request, we build a program with a single organization: designed with you rather than delivered to you.

How it is built

A program built with your organization is about twenty days of work: fifteen designing it with you, five in the room. Most of the work happens before anyone arrives. We learn how decisions are actually made in your organization, what it has already come through, and which practices are worth recovering, testing, or protecting. The days in the room only work because of the days before them.

Open programs follow the same principle at a different scale. Each participant brings a live situation from their own work, and the program is shaped around what they bring.

In both, the time in the room is spent doing rather than listening. People work through situations designed to put the real questions in front of them, then decide together what to take back.

What stays afterward

Participants leave with practices they can run again without us. Every program ends with a named next step for each participant, a named person who follows up, and a date. When we build a program with your organization, we set a date at the start to come back and see what held and what fell off. The evidence we look for is changed behaviour, not whether people enjoyed the days.

Who leads it

Bianca Wylie is a facilitator, advisor, and writer with a background in software development, professional facilitation, and digital governance. She has designed and run public engagement processes for governments and government agencies, on topics from transportation and urban planning to parks, real estate development, and libraries.

Jerrold McGrath has spent twenty years designing leadership programs and encounters that help people find somewhere to stand when the footing is uncertain, including a decade at the Banff Centre. His work includes national consultations and training on artificial intelligence with the cultural sector, and multi-day encounters that place people inside artificial intelligence, ecological damage, and political uncertainty rather than in front of descriptions of them.
