Strategy Development

What it is

Strategy formed together, in the room, by the people who will carry it out. This is a facilitated service that involves getting to know the team and context of the organization, and mapping out the next iteration of plans for the months or years ahead.

How it works

The participants and the number of sessions are variable: the offering is designed to fold into pre-existing processes and timelines. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a proposal and work to fine-tune it together.

What you leave with

A strategic plan informed by decisions the group has reached together and owns, as well as a timeline for implementation and maintenance. These plans are lightweight and intended to operate as living and adaptive documents. They give an organization a shared sense of direction, built on decisions the group can explain and defend. We come back on a date set at the start to see what held.

Who leads it

Bianca Wylie is a professional facilitator, a technology advisor, and a digital governance expert. At Swerhun Facilitation she co-designed and supported public consultation processes for the City of Toronto, Metrolinx, Parks Canada, and others. She is the author of a handbook that provides  structure for technology decisions, and has produced research and digital governance guidance for public sector and civil society clients in Canada and the United States.

Jerrold McGrath designs the strategy process: who is in the room, how the work unfolds over time, and how a group arrives at decisions it can carry forward. He worked on more than 100 leadership, innovation and change programs at the Banff Centre for clients including Suncor Energy, ATB Financial and the Saskatchewan Public Service Commission, and has since led strategy work in which an organization’s own team designs and runs experiments to test its assumptions before committing to a direction.
